Been a while. I'm trying to sell a house, move to El Paso - which entails building a house at the ranch - get out of the army, and start a new job, all while working on my PhD. So, a little busy. Shadow seems to have gotten attacked by a cougar or bobcat - we don't buy the vet's explanation of how she got hurt and all the animals on the farm seem uptight, and a hen was killed, and a couple calves were killed down the road. So.... Can't wait to get the horses down to El Paso - just coyotes to deal with there ;) Oh, and the rattle snakes, and .....
Well, if you look at our facebook page, you know that Trinity broke one of the panels on the round pen. We haven't gotten to replace it yet, so I just take Shadow in there to work and pretend it's there.... easier said than done! Shadow remembers the incident, as each time we pass by that area, she stops and doesn't want to go by it. Then, when I was ready to start on lunge line, Brandy decided to come see what was going on!! Needless to say, we didn't get any lunge line work done, nor work on the feet, but did get the blanket on her quickly without her freaking. Almost ready for the big saddle on her. Then, Jess laid across Brandy and she stood there nicely. I think we are getting somewhere! We had a great vacation in San Diego - Sea World, Legoland, and the Zoo. Now it's back to work trying to get this started. Progress was made even while on vacation! Have someone helping us look for funding. Will be taking another group out this week to work with Trinity and Shadow, and do the 12-step program. Prayers still needed! God Bless, Melinda - Last Thursday we had the first group of Soldiers go out to do horse therapy. As Shadow isn't ready to ride yet, we just did ground work and grooming with her. It was great to get started, even if it wasn't all I know it can and will be! Shadow has accepted the saddle! Tomorrow we try getting both the saddle and the blanket on her. We've really built up trust between us. Hopefully get some Soldiers out there in the next week and get her used to working with a number of different people. Wish us luck. M - We have made significant progress toward finding support and funding for our ranch. Please continue to pray that donors and investors find our work worthwhile and worthy of supporting. God Bless, M - We seem to be one step closer to getting Shadow under saddle. Today we got the blanket on her back and she walked around with it until it fell off. That freaked her out a little bit, but she did really well! I was a proud momma. M - Well, the baby is definitely there! S/he kicked and could be felt on the side of Brandy. That is so cool! Even though we weren't looking to have a foal and aren't really prepared for one, we are getting excited. Pray it doesn't come while we are in El Paso next month. M - | Melinda
